Est. 1906. Historic Places Category 1. The Old Post Office | Government Building. In 1874 the second largest wooden building in the southern hemisphere housed all local and national government departments here. In 1902 a fire destroyed the building and all official records of early Tauranga. By 1906 this Edwardian Baroque style double cavity brick building had replaced it. Public subscription saw the addition of a clock to the domed tower in 1907.
