Est. 1987 | 1903 | 1967. Raupatu or confiscations in Tauranga saw Māori resettled on reserves far from the township and its facilities. In 1873 the first hostelry was built to accommodate those travelling to town from islands such as Mōtītī and Tūhua (Mayor Island) for supplies who needed to stay overnight. Demolished in 1902, a new building opened in May 1903.
