Est. 2011. Customs Reserve | The Triangle. An ancient sea cliff between the swampy stretch of Spring Street and the edge of the harbour was cut down to reclaim the foreshore for the Edward VII Esplanade (later renamed The Strand). In 1911 Norris & Bell’s two-story block was built here, then demolished in 1972 when the multi-story Bay of Plenty Savings Bank was built, the first building in the Bay of Plenty to have an escalator.
